Dream Auction

Gilmore Park United Church is dedicated to raising awareness and funding poverty initiatives in Richmond with 100% of the funds raised at our Dream Auction. In the last ten years we have supported local poverty initiatives with nearly $372,000.

In 2011 Gilmore Park partnered with CHIMO to organize Richmond's Dream Auction. The dream remains the same: that no child in Richmond will suffer from poverty.

OUR GOAL: $38,000

All funds raised go directly to helping children and families suffering in poverty in the city of Richmond. Funds will be distributed as follows:

  1. Breakfast Programs in Richmond schools ($5,000)
  2. Richmond Food Bank for children's necessities ($7,000)
  3. Community Meal at St. Alban's Church - serving meals to over 100 needy families weekly. ($7,000)
  4. CHIMO - services providing a safe place for women and children facing violence (Nova House) and supporting children and families facing poverty ($8,000)
  5. Nova House - sheltering abused and homeless women and children ($2,000)
  6. Community Meal at Gilmore Park United Church ($7,000)
  7. "Stir it Up" community kitchen for youth ($1,000)
  8. Community Meal at Richmond Bethel Church ($3,000)
POVERTY IN RICHMOND?
  • 31.4% (before taxes) of Richmond children under 18 live in poverty
  • 26.1% (before taxes) of Richmond population live in poverty
  • The average income for a family of four living in poverty is $14,900/year
  • The gap between rich and poor in Richmond is the highest in Canada
  • Poverty in Richmond is virtually invisible
