Small Groups
Small groups meet for the purpose of supporting one another, sharing all of life together, studying God's word, and upholding one another in prayer. We have several types of small groups at Gilmore Park to fit all your spiritual needs.
DISCIPLESHIP GROUPS

These groups meet on the first and third weeks of the month, either in leaders’ homes or at the church. They are open to anyone and everyone to join at anytime. You don’t need to know anything, bring anything, or prepare anything.

What happens in a "discipleship group"?

The content of a discipleship group gathering is three-fold:

  1. To share our lives with others, giving and receiving support and care
  2. To study the Scriptures, reflecting how we might relate our faith to our everyday lives
  3. To uphold one another in prayer

Leadership

Small Groups are led by committed, trained and accountable Lay Pastors. These are laypersons who have received specialized training and who feel called to care for other people in small groups.

Training
Lay Pastors receive two years of training in the following disciplines:

  • Bible and theological reflection
  • Leadership skills
  • Small group theory and practice
  • Christian discipleship
  • Human relationships, including family systems and conflict resolution
  • Enneagram personality testing
  • Gifts discernment

Accountability
Lay Pastors commit to monthly meetings where they receive supervision both from their peers, and from the Minister. At monthly meetings Lay Pastors:

  • care for and support one by "checking in" as to how they're doing
  • receive support, care and help from the Minister
  • pray together for one another, and the congregation
  • hand in a monthly report to the Minister about the health of their group
  • study the Scripture readings for the upcoming month, so as to be fully prepared for possible questions that might arise
when and where

We have eleven small groups to choose from. They gather at the following times and places. You may call the church office to double-check that there has been no change before you show up to a group, however if you "take your chances" you will be most welcome at any group, anytime.
